What’s new in SpreadsheetConverter v12

More of your workbook.
Less preparation.

Turn more of the Excel workbooks you already use into working web calculators and forms. Version 12 handles a wider range of .xlsx workbooks, with fewer formulas to rewrite and fewer workarounds before you publish.

From everyday counts and averages to named ranges and modern array formulas, v12 brings more of your spreadsheet’s logic to the web. Spend less time adapting your workbook and more time putting it to use.

Keep more of the Excel work you have already done

A workbook should not need a collection of special formulas just to become a web page. V12 improves support for complex references, named cells and ranges, array calculations and workbook formats, so more existing spreadsheets can be converted with less preparation.

Better handling of counts, averages and empty cells

Small differences can change an important result. V12 improves how calculations distinguish numbers, text, empty cells and zero, including everyday functions such as COUNT and AVERAGE.

An empty cell is different from zero. V12 preserves that distinction instead of treating every empty numeric cell as an entered 0, so counts and averages can handle mixed ranges more faithfully. Formulas that directly reference a blank still follow Excel’s rules.

Use the names that make your workbook readable

Named cells and ranges let you write formulas around meaningful terms instead of cell addresses. V12 improves defined-name handling, including names used in dynamic references, so more of those formulas carry over to your web calculator.

Bring modern Excel formulas to the web

Filter a list, sort results, build a sequence or return several answers from one formula. V12 adds dynamic arrays and expands multi-cell results, alongside LET and LAMBDA for reusable formula logic. More of the calculations you use in Excel can stay in their original form.

Keep numbers and dates familiar

Improved number, date and time formatting, plus better handling of language and regional settings, help your published calculator present values the way your audience expects.

A new add-in for the way you use Excel today

Work in supported desktop Excel or Excel Online with the modern Office add-in. Convert your workbook, review the resulting web page and publish a calculator or form people can use in their browser. The installation guide walks you through the first conversion.

Much easier to embed in WordPress and other websites

Bring your calculator or form into a page on your own website. After publishing, choose Copy embed code and paste the code into your page’s HTML or a code block that allows scripts. The calculator appears inline, alongside your own content.

V12 provides a single line of embed code that creates the calculator’s place on the page for you, without an iframe. This makes embedding in WordPress and similar website platforms much simpler. Your website must allow scripts in the page; the available options depend on your platform and account.

See the difference with your own workbook

Already own an earlier version? Enter your old licence key and its licence email address in the add-in’s Account tab for a 30-day trial of all v12 features. An old key alone does not provide continued use of the new add-in after the trial. For continued access to v12 features, choose a v12 subscription.

If you do not have an old licence key, request a trial key. You can also email us an .xlsx for a free conversion.

The detailed changes in v12

The release notes below compare v12 with v11.6. For your particular workbook, check the function reference and test the calculations and controls before publishing.

1. Excel functions

The largest expansion is in functions that return multiple results.

Reusable formula logic is another major addition. LET introduces local names within formulas, and LAMBDA enables reusable worksheet-defined calculations. MAP, BYROW, BYCOL, REDUCE, SCAN, MAKEARRAY and ISOMITTED support applying that logic across arrays, accumulating results and handling optional parameters.

Regular expressions. REGEXTEST, REGEXEXTRACT and REGEXREPLACE, Microsoft 365’s functions for validating, extracting and cleaning text, use the same pattern syntax as Excel. That includes capture groups, case-insensitive matching, a chosen occurrence and multi-cell results. They work on any web page, with no special server or browser settings.

More functions, by category:

2. Formula types and calculation behaviour

These are compatibility improvements as well as additions: they allow more existing workbooks to behave correctly without formula rewrites.

3. Features and workflow
