Create any form you need with Microsoft Excel. Convert it to web format with SpreadsheetConverter and upload it to your web server. If you want to fine-tune the layout, you can edit the generated web page using tools like Microsoft Expression, Microsoft Frontpage or Dreamweaver.

When all the data has been entered into the form and the user presses the Send or Submit button, a web server must be invoked to process the request. In most cases, the web server forwards the form's contents as an e-mail to a predefined e-mail address, or stores the data into a database.

Processing forms in your own web server

  • SpreadsheetConverter generates standard web forms conforming to the HTML standards.
  • You write your own forms processing scripts using CGI, ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, Perl or whatever language you prefer. Handling web forms is standard web programming and you will find a lot of samples on the net and in programming books. Naturally, some programming skills are required.
  • There are also ready-made solutions, e.g. Microsoft Frontpage Extensions, formmail.pl or formmail.php. Ask your webmaster or Internet Service Provider for more information about locally available scripts. Using standard scripts requires little or no programming, but you need to have the skills to configure the script.
  • Building your own forms processing makes it possible to integrate web forms created with Microsoft Excel into your normal IT infrastructure. You can store form contents into your databases, e.g. Microsoft SQL Server or mySQL, or you can feed it directly into server applications for automatic processing.
