Collaborate on a Live Web Calculator or Smart Web Form with LiveShare

Work together on a complex calculator or web form. The new LiveShare feature allows you to share an Excel spreadsheet on the web and collaborate in real-time with other users.

June 12, 2014 — SpreadsheetConverter is an add-on to Microsoft Excel that lets you convert spreadsheets to live web pages. The new version 7.6 recently became available at

Most of the attention for this update goes to the new LiveShare feature that allows two or more users to work together on the same Excel spreadsheet on the web. The spreadsheet can either be used for complex calculations or for advanced data entry as an electronic form.

Establishing a collaboration session only requires a shared link to the page and a separately agreed security code. There is no user registration, no central administration and collaborators can come and go in the session as they please.

“Immediate collaboration on demand is the key to getting problems solved quickly. Instead of being alone in your office and typing all your questions in an e-mail to a specialist, you can now have the specialist join in directly on your spreadsheet session”, says Anna Winter, sales manager for SpreadsheetConverter.

All connected users see exactly the same values in the spreadsheet cells. When a change is made, it is flagged with the user’s name.

The collaboration session is persistent which according to Winter is best described as automatically saving all joint updates to a server.

“Most online spreadsheets cannot be shared or saved. With Live Share we offer you both collaboration and persistence. You can of course use the automatic saving also when working alone on a form or spreadsheet. The next time you visit the same link, all your old data will be there as you left them”, she says.

The initial release of the LiveShare feature is only available in the HTML flavor of the product. In a future release of the iPhone/Android flavor, mobile devices will also be able to connect to LiveShare sessions and make changes to shared spreadsheets.

SpreadsheetConverter is available for free trial at It creates web pages that are completely standalone, do not use Excel and run on all web servers. You only need Excel and the Spreadsheet Converter add-on for the actual conversion from spreadsheet to web page format. There is a one-time fee for the conversion program, with no extra fees per page, user or server. You may use the program and the web pages it creates for as long as you like. Full versions start at $127.
