Do not be alarmed, this problem only occurs during testing and will not affect your customers and other users of the published web page. You do not need to change previously generated web pages.

The charts of SpreadsheetConverter are implemented using Macromedia Flash. By using Flash, we can create interactive charts that are rendered inside the browser. No communication with the web server is needed.

When you create a web page using SpreadsheetConverter to HTML/JavaScript, it will show the generated web page directly. It will open the web page using a file:/// url. Upto Macromedia Flash Player version 7, charts worked fine. However, Macromedia has now thinks that this abilitity can be used by hackers and blocked this. You will get a message "Macromedia Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation".

Macromedia Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation (Press Ctrl-Click for full size)

and the chart will be blank:

The calculations works, but the chart is blank (Press Ctrl-Click for full size)

The chart is blank, since Macromedia Flash Player 8 doesn't allow us to update the chart.

Solution 1: Enable local Flash content

Change the settings of Macromedia/Adobe Flash so that it trusts our generated web pages. By clicking on 'Settings...', you will get the following dialog. Add the folder you selected in the Selection Location step in the Spreadsheet-converter wizard.

Trust the generated web pages (Press Ctrl-Click for full size)

Click here to view a tutorial that shows how to change the settings of Flash (1.34 mins, sound).

Solution 2: Publish the web page

This security warning will only appear when you test the web page, since we use an file:///-url. However, once you publish the web page, it will work as always:

The calculations works and the chart works (Press Ctrl-Click for full size)

Solution 3: Local web server

You need a web server installed on your computer. If you are using Windows NT, 2000, XP Pro, 2003, you already have Internet Information Server (IIS) or you can install it.

If you are using XP Home, you can install Apache from http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi . Best is to download and install the file called Win32 Binary (MSI Installer): apache_2.****.****-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi

Can I uninstall version 8 and reinstall version 7?

Yes, download the uninstaller and the installer. Close the browser windows, run the uninstaller and then the installer:
