 Why?

ExcelEverywhere has changed name to SpreadsheetConverter

As of October 2005, we are not allowed to call our software ExcelEverywhere anymore. Microsoft's lawyers contacted us, they claim that Microsoft has the rights to the mark EXCEL and thus, only Microsoft is allowed to call software anything with EXCEL. We do not want to waste any resources challenging Microsoft.

Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington, US and Framtidsforum I&M AB, Sweden have reached the following agreement:

  • By end of September 2005, we must stop selling a products with names containing EXCEL, i.e. ExcelEverywhere. We have to find a new name.
  • The site http://www.exceleverywhere.com should direct users to a new site.
The change does not affect how you are allowed to use your copy of ExcelEverywhere.

The new name is SpreadsheetConverter, which describes what ExcelEverywhere is: it converts a spreadsheet into something different so that you can run it anywhere. As a bonus, no Microsoft Excel licenses are needed when the result of the conversion is used.

All links to our website and all email addresses will also change.

The old email addresses will work until September 2006.

What does this mean to you?

If you do not use our submit service or you are using ExcelEverywhere version 2.4 or earlier, you do not have change anything. The next time you upgrde ExcelEverywhere, you will get a SpreadsheetConverter menu instead of an ExcelEverywhere menu. The program is the same as before.

If you are using our submit service, you need to update the links from http://www.exceleverywhere.com to http://www.spreadsheetconverter.com. There are two ways of doing that:

  1. Download a version 3.4.0 or later and regenerate the webpages. Version 3.4 automatically uses http://www.spreadsheetconverter.com links.
  2. If you have edited you webpage a lot it might be easier to patch it. Change the url "http://www.exceleverywhere.com/30/mailer/submit.aspx" to "http://www.spreadsheetserver.com/server1/g/submit/submit.aspx" and "http://www.exceleverywhere.com" to "http://www.spreadsheetconverter.com"
We recommend the 1), since you will be able to use the new feature ot 3.4 which redirects the user back to your site after the submit.

You have to do these changes before September 2006. After that, the internet domain exceleverywhere.com is not used anymore.

Do I have to change anything?
